Menstrual Cycle

The cycle for menses is usually around 28 days but can vary from 21 to 35 days. Each cycle involves the release of an egg (ovulation), which moves into the uterus through the fallopian tubes. The body’s tissues and blood start to line the walls of the girl ’s uterus for fertilization.

Menstruation

Menstruation is the monthly flow of blood from the uterus through the vagina in girls and women from puberty to menopause. It is a normal process for women and girls, and it starts at puberty or adolescence. Girls tend to start their menstrual periods between the ages of 10 and 14, and this continues until they reach menopause usually between their late forties to mid mid-fifties.

Emergency contraception is ia method of contraception that can be used to prevent pregnancy if: you haven't used protection; your normal contraception fails e.g. condom splits; you have missed more than one contraceptive pill; you have been vomiting or had diarrhoea while on the pill; you have missed your injection; you have been forced to have sex without contraception

There are different contraceptives and different methods of contraception, including: Long-acting reversible contraception, such as the implant or intrauterine device (IUD); hormonal contraception, such the pill or the Depo Provera injection; barrier methods, such as condoms; emergency contraception; fertility awareness and permanent contraception, such as vasectomy and tubal ligation.

Abortion is the termination of pregnancy through the use of either tablets (medical abortion) or a simple outpatient procedure. It is considered safe if they are done with a method (such as the ones mentioned earlier) recommended by the WHO that is appropriate to the pregnancy duration and if the person providing or supporting the abortion is trained.Unsafe abortion occurs when a pregnancy is terminated either by persons lacking the necessary skills or in an environment that does not conform to minimal medical standards or both.
